World Fish Roll Day

World Fish Roll Day on May 4th 2019

Be it for locals or guests – the fish roll is one of the most popular snacks in Germany’s true North. In order to help the fishy finger food to worldwide fame, the “World Fish Roll Day” is celebrated at the Baltic Coast of Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-West Pomerania on the first Saturday of May since 2011. Since then, numerous places along the North Sea Coast have joined this joint action.

On May 4th 2019 everything will be about the popular bread halves with fish inlay. To indulge the guests and locals, the fish experts of the seaside resort made up extraordinary creations and offers around the fish roll:

Casa Grande: In the port of Travemünde, the bread roll is served a little differently: Homemade oven-warm bread rolls are served with a home-made style matjes plate and limes.

Fisch Paul: Fisherman Harry Lüdtke delivers freshly caught herrings from the Bay of Lübeck directly from the fishing boat to the kitchen of the fish snack bar, where they immediately land in the pan, on the grill or in the fish roll.

Fisch-Wöbke: An extraordinary delicacy awaits the guests: Fish-sommelier Mike Wöbke creates a special gourmet dish on the occasion of the fish roll’s great day: a bread roll with smoked wild salmon, horseradish cream and fresh blueberries.

GOSCH Sylt | Travemünde: Here the visit is worth twice! Matching the smoked eel-rolls from the own smokehouse at a special price of € 5.00, Fridolin Fröhlich plays on his accordion from 1 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m.

Restaurant Marina: Home-marinated and then smoked salmon will be served “pulled pork-style” in the restaurant’s little shack by the Travepromenade.

Those who prefer the classics „Bismarck”, Matjes or North Sea shrimps won’t be disappointed. Numerous snack bars or fish shops in the seaside resort are prepared for hungry guests on World Fish Roll Day.
